On the Nothingness of God: A Zen Meditation

finger
Back in 2008 I read a review of the book Merton & Buddhism: Wisdom, Emptiness & Everyday Mind edited by Bonnie Bowman Thurston. The reviewer cited a particular line that I’ve not been able to shake. “(W)hen the Dalai Lama was asked if he believed in God, he replied ‘It depends on what you mean by ‘God’: if you mean by ‘God’ What Thomas Merton means, then yes, I do.’”
This very much caught my imagination. And, I wrote on the subject, on the yes, and the implied no, and within that the power of nothingness. I find myself think of this again. And, thought I’d take another run at that mystery.

Metta chant and Olympians

"A Brazilian friend told me Metta chanting helped calm some Olympians, another friend told me she heard this chanting in a Dharma talk in Indian by HH Gyalwang Karmapa, and many more such sharing and stories coming from places. I can only do this much for now but I wished for one day to travel and sing Metta for as many as possible, in person . May be one day when all Metta hearts get linked together, we can also have a Metta Olympic, joint by all in this world." ~ Imee Ooi

Joyce Wrice's Buddhist Faith Informs Her Sad Yet Uplifting R&B

Joyce WriceEXPAND
Joyce Wrice
A Buddhist R&B singer seems almost as antithetical as a Scientologist psychiatrist or a Mormon beer baron. One tradition is rooted in emotional volatility and the other is a serene religion seeking enlightenment. Bodhisattvas posses wisdom, but Bobby Brown made “Don’t Be Cruel.” It’s a toss-up.
If her stellar debut EP, Stay Around, is any harbinger, Joyce Wricemay be the first to bridge the gap between satori and soul since Tina Turner converted in 1974. After all, the initial precept of Buddhism is that all life is suffering, and few circumstances cause greater pain than heartache.

David Bowie Studied Buddhism

His Tibetan Buddhist Teacher Responds to His Death

by Ryan Charles, Dalailamafilm.com, January 12, 2016

On January 10th David Bowie passed away in New York City. An official statement was released expressing that he “died peacefully, surrounded by his family after an 18-month battle with cancer.”

The prolific and influential musician, actor and artist– perhaps best known for his glam rock alter-ego Ziggy Stardust– reinvented himself many times during his more than 5 decades in the public eye. Releasing 26 albums in addition to appearing in over 20 feature films Bowie would forever “turn to face the strange ch-ch-changes” in his own life with grace and courage.

The Path

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcxEnEagDFQ

The Path

Someone once said to me
that nothing stays forever
No state of mind, stays good or bad
but it could, if we were together

Someone once said to me
have you seen the deep insight
life is endless, make it right
things will change throughout your life

Chorus
I'd like to take you with me now
and I hope that it will last
I'd like to take you along a road
and it's called the path
I'd like to take you with me now
so don't think about the past
I'd like to take you along a road
and it's called the path
and it's called the path

Someone once said to me
make the right decision
I said that I can only tell
when I know I have the wisdom

Someone once said to me
you can have enlightenment
Nirvana is where we step
when it's like deep meditation

Chorus
I'd like to take you with me now
and  I hope that it will last
I'd like to take you along a road
and it's called the path
I'd like to take you with me now
so don't think about the past
I'd like to take you along a road
and it's called the path
and it's called the path
yes, it's called the path

Something To Lighten up your Day Part 10

"Teach Your Children" Live in Australia

http://playingforchange.com/episodes/teach-your-children-live-in-adelaide/

Synopsis
This powerful live performance of "Teach Your Children" from Adelaide, Australia, features Tula, Roberto Luti and the PFC Band. Years ago when we started recording Songs Around The World together like "One Love" and "Chanda Mama" we never imagined we would be growing a global movement supporting musicians and music education across the globe, but this is the power of music. Today's live performance embodies all that we believe in: soulful music with an inspiring message helping us to move forward as human race, one heart and one song at a time.

Something To Lighten up your Day Part 8

http://playingforchange.com/episodes/one-love-live-from-madrid/

Whenever the Playing For Change Bank takes the stage, there is always a tremendous amount of love and energy in the air.  For this very special performance it was even more palpable, as the band was joined by many of our friends featured in our various Song Around the World: Tula's amazing vocals, Roberto Lupti playing the National steel slide guitar, Francis Vigurie on the bongos, Stefano Tomaselli on the sax, Vengkat playing the tablas, and the beautiful choir vocals of Sinamuya.

This performance served as a powerful milestone in the evolution of Playing For Change. Seeing so many talented musicians from all different cultures and walks of life united on stage for this very special night was a physical manifestation of our mission: to connect the world and bring peace through music.
