I Am Good Enough By Ajahn Brahm

When you have a healthy sense of self-worth, then you don’t need to play the ‘I Am Better Than You’ game. You don’t need to prove yourself. A healthy sense of self-worth comes from realizing the true meaning of being perfect.

Thich Nhat Hanh: is mindfulness being corrupted by business and finance?

The Zen master discusses his advice for Google and other tech giants on being a force for good in the world  theguardian.com, Friday 28 March 2014

Mindfulness has become an increasingly popular topic among business leaders, with several key executives speaking publicly in recent months about how it helps them improve the bottom line.
Intermix CEO Khajak Keledjian last week shared his secrets to inner peace with The Wall Street Journal. Arianna Huffington, editor in chief of the Huffington Post, discussed mindfulness in Thrive, her new book released this week. Other business leaders who meditate include Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini, Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff and Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh, to name just a few.
In a blog post last month, Huffington wrote that "there's nothing touchy-feely about increased profits. This is a tough economy. ... Stress-reduction and mindfulness don't just make us happier and healthier, they're a proven competitive advantage for any business that wants one."
But by focusing on the bottom-line benefits of mindfulness, are business leaders corrupting the core Buddhist practice?

BIOGRAPHY OF AJAHN CHAH

Ajahn Chah

Venerable Ajahn Chah was born on June 17, 1918 in a small village near the town of Ubon Rajathani, North-East Thailand. After finishing his basic schooling, he spent three years as a novice before returning to lay life to help his parents on the farm. At the age of twenty, however, he decided to resume monastic life, and on April 26, 1939 he receivedupasampadā (bhikkhu ordination). Ajahn Chah’s early monastic life followed a traditional pattern, of studying Buddhist teachings and the Pali scriptural language. In his fifth year his father fell seriously ill and died, a blunt reminder of the frailty and precariousness of human life. It caused him to think deeply about life’s real purpose, for although he had studied extensively and gained some proficiency in Pali, he seemed no nearer to a personal understanding of the end of suffering. Feelings of disenchantment set in, and finally (in 1946) he abandoned his studies and set off on mendicant pilgrimage.

3-Year-Old Remembers Past Life, Identifies Murderer and Location of Body

By Tara MacIsaacEpoch Times | May 17, 2014

The universe is full of mysteries that challenge our current knowledge. In "Beyond Science" Epoch Times collects stories about these strange phenomena to stimulate the imagination and open up previously undreamed of possibilities. Are they true? You decide.

A 3-year-old boy in the Golan Heights region near the border of Syria and Israel said he was murdered with an axe in his previous life. He showed village elders where the murderer buried his body, and sure enough they found a man’s skeleton there. He also showed the elders where the murder weapon was found, and upon digging, they did indeed found an axe there.

Bāhiya Sutta (Udana 1.10)

This beautiful verse from the sutta summarises the heart of Vipassana practice - not to attach ourselves to whatever sensation that arises from contact at any of the six sense doors and to extricate ourselves from grasping.

Ani Sutta: The Peg (SN 20.7 )

This sutta is seldom quoted. Yet it is important to be aware that the Buddha himself points out the main cause for the disappearance of the teachings and affirms the importance of knowing the suttas.
