Impermanence

Aniccā vata saṅkhārā,
uppādavayadhammino;
Uppajjitvā nirujjhanti,
tesaṃ vūpasamo sukho’’ti.
Impermanent indeed are formations;
Their nature is to arise and vanish.
Having arisen, they cease:
Their appeasement is blissful.

Buddhist altar makers recreate armor worn by feudal clan chief

By HIROSHI ONO, Asahi Shimbun, August 28, 2016

HIKONE, Shiga Prefecture (Japan) -- Artisans in various fields banded together to recreate a suit of armor worn by Ii Naotaka (1590-1659), a feudal lord of the Hikone domain.

The Hikone Chamber of Commerce and Industry and its partners hope that armor products can become a commercial success while showcasing the excellence of local craftsmen.

At the heart of this plan lies the “Hikone Butsudan” Buddhist altar manufacturing industry.

According to tradition, artisans involved in manufacturing weaponry switched to producing Buddhist altars during times of peace.

The “Hikone Premium Katchu,” the name of the prototype armor suit, weighs 23 kilograms, and its trunk part is 41.1 centimeters high.

Who am I?

"We want to know ourselves: "Who am I?"
We are nature, a physical and mental process that is happening at this point in time. We need to be like a scientist, researching ourselves: "Why am I so angry? Why am I so anxious and worried all the time?" Once you know, suffering becomes less and less."

Mindfulness has lost its Buddhist roots, and it may not be doing you good

June 5, 2015 The Conversation

Mindfulness as a psychological aid is very much in fashion. Recent reports on the latest finding suggested that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is as effective as anti-depressants in preventing the relapse of recurrent depression.
While the authors of the paper interpreted their results in a slightly less positive light, stating that (contrary to their hypothesis) mindfulness was no more effective than medication, the meaning inferred by many in the media was that mindfulness was superior to medication.

The art of conning people in the name of religion is as old as human civilization itself, and there are certainly many religious con artists lurking in Jakarta as well.

One who is peaceful, without hate, and fearless
Is said to be wise.

Meet The Fourth-Grader Recognized As A Reincarnation Of A Buddhist Lama

by Carol Kuruvilla, The Huffington Post, Aug 17, 2016

Jalue Dorje likes soccer, Pokemon cards, and praying for people.

Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA)
 -- Jalue Dorje is a 9-year-old from the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. His life is filled with the typical past times of a soon-to-be fourth-grader: collecting Pokemon cards, playing soccer, watching shows on his laptop.
But Dorje also has responsibilities of a more spiritual nature. Along with perfecting his swimming strokes in the pool, the young boy spends his summer vacations learning Tibetan Buddhist mantras, practicing religious calligraphy, and attending ceremonies.
