Dhammapada. 42-43

Whatever harm an enemy can do to an enemy,
Or a hater to a hater,
An ill-directed mind
Causes oneself even greater harm.
No mother or father
Or any other kin
Can do greater good for oneself
Than a well-directed mind.

AVOID COMPANIONSHIP WITH THE FOOLISH

“If a disciple fares along and does not meet a companion who is better or at least equal, then let him pursue his spiritual career solitarily. He should not keep companionship with the foolish.”
– The Dhammapada, ‘Bala Vagga’, Verse 61.

Dhammapada 167-169

Image may contain: 1 person, indoor

167
Don't associate with lowly qualities.
Don't consort with heedlessness.
Don't associate with wrong views.
Don't busy yourself with the world.
168-169
Get up! Don't be heedless.
Live the Dhamma well.
One who lives the Dhamma
sleeps with ease
in this world & the next.
Live the Dhamma well.
Don't live it badly.
One who lives the Dhamma
sleeps with ease
in this world & the next.

Dhammapada 75

The path to material gain goes one way,
the way to Unbinding, another.
Realizing this, the monk,
a disciple to the Awakened One,
should not relish offerings,
should cultivate seclusion instead.

Dhp 219 - 220

"When, after a long absence, a man safely returns from afar, his relatives, friends and well-wishers welcome him home on arrival.
As kinsmen welcome a dear one on arrival, even so his own good deeds will welcome the doer of good who has gone from this world to the next."

Dhammapada 202

There is no fire like lust and no crime like hatred.
There is no ill like the aggregates (of existence)
and no bliss higher than the peace (of Nibbana).

he delights in both the worlds.
The thought, "Good have I done," delights him, and

Dhammapada 387, translated by Gil Fronsdal

The sun shines by day,
The moon glows at night.
The warrior shines in his armor.
The brahmin shines in meditative absorption.
But all day and all night,
The Buddha shines in splendor.
